Woodpecker Feeding on a Shaving Brush Blossom
Moments are fleeting, and change is constant. The Shaving Brush Tree may bloom for weeks, but each individual flower lasts just one day. I had the privilege of witnessing one of nature's wonders: a Shaving Brush Tree in full bloom. It was my first time seeing those stunning bouquets of hundreds of delicate pink stamens. Early each morning, a variety of birds gather to drink the nectar—hummingbirds, orioles, and parrots among them. The Hispaniolan woodpeckers are always present too, their loud calls announcing their arrival as they eagerly sip from the blossoms.
