Women in traditional Ao Dai light lanterns on the Perfume river, Hue, Vietnam.

In Hue, the tradition of paper lantern lighting in the river has its own unique meaning. The Pearl River flows through the city, and in the past, it served as a vital waterway for trade and transportation. As night fell, merchants and sailors would light lanterns and release them onto the river as a form of homage to the water, expressing their gratitude and seeking blessings for safe travels and prosperous business.
