The first sight in the Wadi Rum protected area of Jordan is of a striking, miles long rock formation (billions of years old) set in red desert sands. The left part is named after the book by T. E. Lawrence (aka, "Lawrence of Arabia"), "Seven Pillars of Wisdom". He visited in 1917-18.
