View of a medieval bridge in Las Fragas do Eume, considered the best preserved Atlantic forest in Europe and one of the few forests of this type still preserved on the continent. In 1997 this forest was declared a Natural Park and is the second largest Park in Galicia after A Serra do Xurés (Ourense). In Galicia we call "fragas" what could be called Galician jungles, areas of highly populated forest, where the light arrives in drops, making its way through the thousands of leaves of the trees that form them. In these forests, humidity predominates at all times of the year, favoring life. It is important to note that this park is home to threatened animal and plant species, as well as 7 species of prehistoric ferns from the Tertiary. But the Eume River is also the one that has the greatest role in the park. For 65 million years, its waters shaped the canyon that crosses the Fragas to flow into the Ares-Betanzos estuary, traveling 80km from its source in the province of Lugo.
