Upon the Mountains Like a Flame

The sun rises on Norway's Skottinden mountain on the Lofoten Archipelago. Winter in Arctic Norway is harsh, beautiful, and random. That last feature created the unique pattern in this lake ice. Although the snow cap on Skottinden makes it look like a typical Norwegian winter, leading up to me making this photo, there were several days of above freezing weather. This partially melted the ice sheet on the lake, which was just in the process of refreezing when I was there. The result is a wispy circular pattern influenced by strong winds. When finishing this image, I wanted to emphasize the intriguing pattern on the lake as well as highlighting the beautiful purples and blues of the nascent day. I delighted in the golden crown from the sun lighting up the peaks of the mountain, so I made sure in the final image that that came through as well.
