21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Two sisters

Dreamland made of emeralds and lazuli drowned in sunlight. The place where Siberian Nomads live. Today is a special day. The local festival of native Siberian culture is about to start. People are already coming for preparation. Everyone knows and greats each other. Like these two girls. Not blood relatives, they just met, but they are already sharing their feelings and concerns about the coming celebration, and the older one comforts the little one just like any big sister would. These people are part of a vulnerable group, but they are not afraid of it. They know, if they stick to each other, if they care for each other, they will save their culture, their traditions, their ways of living. Everybody here is brothers and sisters to each other, one big family.
