22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
The two ships almost collided in a dramatic moment.

I traveled to Puran Dhaka, or 'Old Dhaka,' a place steeped in historical wonder. The Buriganga River, which once made this area the capital of Bengal during the Mughal era, is still a vital waterway for fishermen, businesspeople, and commuters. The riverbanks are lined with a mix of historic and modern structures, including the famous Lalbagh Fort and Ahsan Manzil, whose dome is visible here. In the picture, two ships appear to almost collide, creating the illusion of a single vessel. A bicycle handle in the foreground adds a unique perspective to the shot.
