20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
The past, the present and the mess

In the process of idealizing this photograph, I listed some aspects that I would like to address: - the fluid time that seems to escape our control and that is evident in the growth of my daughter and also in the moments when we are absorbed by the parallel online world; - the “zombification” of our children by cell phones/tablets; - the hallucinated society we are living in: we accumulate more things than we can ever use, that extends for the virtual world: friends, followers, game skins… The photograph on the wall behind my daughter shows a past of more contact with nature. The image of her in the present completely hypnotized by the cell phone anticipates the mess that might be the future if we don't find a balance between using screens and living in the real world.
