21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
The landscape of riverbank near Sundarbans with Mangrove forests.

I was travelling on a launch and found the loss of the mangrove forest, due to extreme weather conditions such as cyclones but physical damage caused by the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme events such as cyclone Amphan, populations etc. In deltaic mangroves like Sundarbans periodical erosion and accretion are internal dynamics and it can be balanced by the ecosystem itself if the system is undisturbed. West Bengal Government also planted large number of mangrove trees to save the ecosystems.
