Sunrise on the flooded forest
Varzea forest at dawn. The image shows the top of tropical forest trees in a flooded forest in Ecuador's Cuyabeno Fauna Production Reserve, one of several national protected area in Ecuador's Amazon. For a few weeks a year, rivers originating in the Andes flood some low-lying areas in the Amazon Basin, turning them into spectacular lakes where fresh-water dolphins can be seen along many bird species.
