spadefoot toad love

During the Arizona monsoon season dry desert washes and other low spots fill with water. Reacting to the pattering of rain on the parched desert floor several species of toads and frogs emerge from their 10 months long estivation places and wander towards standing water. Even before eating these amphibians have one thing on their minds. reproduction. The males are the first to the ponds and begin their various buccal pouch calls to attract females. This pair of spadefoot toads have successfully found each other and are beginning the process of ensuring the next generation!
