20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Artistic
Scott Street

“Scott Street” is a self-portrait, taken with an old family photo projected onto my back. The little girl projected onto my back is me, and it photo was taken at my grandmother's house right after we went swimming. I’m smiling, wearing my Little Mermaid Dress and crown, and I don’t have a care in the world. I didn’t care what people thought or what else was going on in my life, and I was in bliss. While things have changed, I’ve become hyperaware of how other’s perceive me, I’m on social media and see how I do or do not fit into beauty standards, but regardless of this, my inner child will always be a part of me, it just depends how I want to show it. "Scott Street" by Phoebe Bridgers is a song about reflecting on the people in your past, and staying close regardless of your stage of life. This year I am graduating from high school, and while I am moving to a new stage in life, I will stay in touch with those in my life, and hold onto my inner child.
