This is a sandstone abstract taken on Weston Beach, Point Lobos, where Edward Weston's ashes are spread. In a 1930 entry in his California Daybook Weston wrote of wanting to photograph a rock, as a rock, yet make it much more than a rock. It was in that context and spirit that I took this photograph of blue and yellow mudstone.
