Rock crystal formation on chert from Girard, Georgia

Girard is near the Savannah River in East Georgia and sits along what is called The Fall Line. Millions of years ago this part of Georgia was underwater. As the continents rearranged themselves via plate tectonics, the ocean retreated leaving the sedimentary rock called Chert exposed.
