Reviving the Mangroves: Women at Work in Sundarbans

While exploring the remote areas of the Sundarbans in West Bengal, India, I came across this captivating scene of resilience. In this photograph, a woman is deeply engrossed in planting mangrove saplings, a vital task in restoring and preserving the fragile ecosystem of this region. Dressed in a vibrant yellow outfit, she carries saplings in a bowl while another woman kneels nearby, tending to the newly planted shoots. The muddy, challenging terrain highlights the arduous nature of their work, but her joyful smile radiates a spirit of dedication and hope. This moment captures the essential role of the local community, especially women, in safeguarding the mangroves that protect their homes from erosion and rising sea levels.
