REGISTAN
REGISTAN : This square used to be the center of the ancient city back when it was the capital of the Timurid Empire (around the 14th-16th century). The large buildings you see used to be Islamic schools (Madrasahs), but now their main purpose is tourism, and they're home to countless small shops run by locals selling anything from jewelry, carpets, silk-work, souvenirs.
