It's a very common sight to see a pair of shoes tied together hanging from overhead wires in Los Angeles. Historically this was thought to mark a spot for various reasons such as the site of a drug trade. Today this motif is so ubiquitous that it has become a common scene in urban neighborhoods throughout the city. I never expected to spot a large number of these commemorative shoes on the roof of the entry way to the Pershing Square Metro station.
