22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Out of the Shadows
I went to Kanha National Park in January of this year for some tiger and wildlife photography. I usually do my wildlife photography trips off season/in winter to avoid the crowds and because the light is usually much more dramatic (fog, rain, mud). Tigers are much harder to find off season but when you do find them, they are usually in great winter light. It was late afternoon, and the light was magical. The jungle filled with alarm calls indicating that a tiger was on the move nearby. I suddenly saw him moving out of the trees into beautiful light.
