22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
On The Move

For many, if not all, wildlife in Yellowstone, last winter's mild weather and low snow amounts seemed easier to cope with. I’ve also never seen that many coyotes in the interior of Yellowstone in January. Close encounters with these charismatic predators were daily. These encounters provided great opportunities to track them and observe their behaviors, such as how they gracefully navigate the snow-covered fields.
