My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love, is the name of this painting on the East side of the Berlin Wall. This painting is a depiction of a photograph taken on the 30th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the German Democratic Republic (Eastern Germany) in 1979. The two men in it are Leonid Brezhnev, the General Secretary of the Soviet Union at the time, and Erich Honecker, the General Secretary of the Socialist Unity Party of the GDR. The Socialist Fraternal Kiss. It is a special form of greetings between socialist country leaders, military officers, soldiers, friends, and family. My 16 year old daughter Christina is standing in front of the painting.
