I explored the Galapagos Islands on a tour in the winter of 2023. The mostly unpopulated islands were home to endemic birds, sealions, crabs, turtles, and iguanas, who seemed unfazed by the people stopping to photograph them. Isla Lobos is named for the numerous Galapagos Sealions who live there. On the beach, there were dozens of sealions, including a bellowing male out in the water. Several sealions chased one another in the sand, rolled in the breaking waves, and even played with a stick! Pelicans flew over and landed in the turquoise water, blue footed boobies dove for fish. The action was non-stop, making it hard to know what to shoot. I decided to sit down on a rock above the beach and find one thing to concentrate on at a time. I watched this charming mama sealion with her pup cavort in the water for several minutes, and then they rested and shared this tender kiss.
