This image is part of a series. My large format images explore themes of age, stillness, and the politics of a portrait, questioning how we perceive identity and what we value in a portrait when the decision making is curated. When photographing on large format,subjects ultimately sacrifice aspects of their identity in the process of being photographed. I tell subjects to sit still for a long time in silence and therefore they are experiencing a moment of uncomfortability within themselves and their identities. To bring out these parts of a person out is my goal while photographing.
