22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Little Dancer

My wife and I took our three year old grandson Henry on an outing to the National Gallery of Art. While in the East Wing we were walking by Niki De Saint Phalle’s sculpture “Yellow Nana.” Henry stopped in front of the sculpture and spontaneously struck this mirroring pose. Henry’s reaction to this sculpture heartwarmingly demonstrates the inherent power of art to communicate with and inspire even the youngest of viewers.
