Lessons From Mom

This photo shows the young cygnets being taught how to feed themselves by their mother. They feed on insects, small invertebrates and later on will learn which water plants to feed on. The six cygnets thrived through the summer until late September when one was killed attempting to fly during a severe wind storm that hit the area and another was taken by a predator. They provided many people the opportunity to view them close up, to witness how remarkably beautiful these birds are and how devoutly the adults care for their young.
