We explored the abandoned Dionysos resort village in Sitia, Crete in 2020. Full of leading lines and unanswered questions, the ghost village was built during the economic boom of the 90's and consequently abandoned a few years later following environmental and economical disputes. The village is now inhabited with just a few remaining residents and many cats. Exploring the ghost village in-between international lockdowns only added to the eeriness of the location. If we hadn't have been explained the history of the village, I'd have wondered whether the lack of human life was due to the pandemic. Dionysos village felt parallel to the turbulent experience of lockdown life back in the UK.
