21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Large jellyfish of the Sea of Azov of the genus Rhizostomeae.

The number of large jellyfish increased strongly in the Sea of Azov. This is due to the fact that the inflow of water from the rivers has decreased, while the inflow from the Black Sea has increased and Black Sea jellyfish are coming to the Sea of Azov. This disturbs the ecological balance of the Sea of Azov and reduces the number of its other inhabitants.
