20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Drone/Aerial
I can still smell the sulfur
The moment you drive up to the Hverir geothermal area, you are immediately overcome with a strong sulfur smell. As you get out and walk around, you see the mud pits bubbling, but I was really captivated by how the area looked from above, especially since I didn't have to stand as close to the sulfur-producing fumeroles. This aerial shot really emphasis the unique natural beauty that exists in Iceland.
