These bare-throated tiger heron chicks are about to leave their nest and start learning how to leap from branch to branch before moving on to flight training. As you can see, the chicks are of different ages, as eggs from the same clutch don't hatch at the same time. I hope all three chicks survive as they get older, but that is unlikely. We tried not to stay too much where the chicks could see us to avoid unnecessary stress, and actually the reason why they seem so still is because they were trying to pass unnoticed from predators. For this kind of photography it is necessary to use a long lens as to keep your distance and avoid disturbing the birds. If the chicks at the nest are younger, then I would advice you don't even try to take a photo as you could cause an accident. Let's remember to always be as ethical as possible when photographing wildlife, these chicks, as I said before are almost juveniles, yet being ethical and respectful has to be one of our top priorities always.
