Hasta Siempre

An Argentine indigenous leader and protester wearing an Ernesto "Che" Guevara t-shirt in front of the Wiphala flag of the Aymara peoples at the campsite in Parque Lavalle, near the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. For over four months, before being dismantled by the police in December, the garrison has hosted dozens of representatives of the hundreds of Argentine indigenous people from the north-western provinces of Salta and Jujuy who took part to the third "Malón de la Paz" demonstration, marching on foot towards the federal capital to claim rights over the lands historically inhabited by their peoples, and against mining exploitation (lithium in particular) and government concessions to multinational companies, which are devastating local landscapes and ecosystems. Buenos Aires, Argentina, November 17, 2023.
