Growing Up in Somalia

A young girl poses for a photograph inside a marsh next to a camp for internally displaced people on the outskirts of the town of Garowe in Puntland, Somalia, on 28 August 2020. The young girl is using makeup to whiten her face, considered a symbol of beauty in Somalia, while the swampy marsh provides a backdrop that is a world away from the dusty streets and metal shacks of the camp.
