Golden Forest of Aspens and Ferns in Autumn
In the mountains of Colorado, every fall, the aspen groves put on an ephemeral show. As the days get shorter and nights get colder, the plants prepare for winter in a last hoorah of color. The aspen leaves were peak gold and the fern fronds were yellow, they would soon fall to the forest floor to insulate the little creatures all winter and recycle nutrients for the trees in warmer times.
