Tufas are soft, porous rock made of calcium carbonate that forms in freshwater environments like springs, streams, or lakes. Tufa is created when water saturated with calcium carbonate becomes supersaturated, which can happen due to temperature changes, degassing of carbon dioxide, or microbial processes. These Tufas becomes more prominently visible when water level of lakes goes drastically down due to draught-like situations.
