Fossil Shell
I was rock collecting in Girard, GA and saw part of the matrix the fossil is attached to poking up out of the ground. The rock matrix is chert, a microcrystalline silica composed of the silica shells of diatoms. I was looking for rock crystal and druzy and instead found this magnificent fossil.
