Every year, Gwangalli Beach in Busan, South Korea, hosts a spectacular fireworks festival. Millions of people gather to witness the event, but I chose to watch it from a distance. As I gazed at the night sky lit up by the brilliant fireworks bursting overhead, I found myself thinking about the countless grains of sand on the beach and the millions of eyes looking up at the dazzling display. In that moment, the fleeting bursts of light in the sky reminded me of galaxies in the universe, briefly illuminating the vastness of space.
