21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Father and daughter

It is the performance of Shushi's displaced puppet theater. It is displaced because it existed in Nagorno Karabakh before the 2020 war. The child's mother is a professional actress and plays one of the three pigs in the play. The child and the father are the devoted audience of the actress. The performance takes place in the city of Gyumri, where the modest property of the wandering theater is located. This family lives in another region, in another city, and they travel a long way just for performances and arrive in Gyumri to have charity performances for children. Behind them is the most important symbol of Armenian identity, Mount Ararat.
