18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Everyday Life Heros

This picture shows an everyday scene from a car workshop in Tabriz, Iran. Yosef and his colleagues discuss how to repair the clutch that one of them is examining. They all have their own small workshop in the car mechanic street. The local craftsmen support each other in word and deed. Because of the sanctions, the spare parts situation is difficult. Thus the Iranians often have to find clever solutions for problems. Finally they succeed in fixing the ruined clutch and without needing additional spare parts. The journey is saved.
