22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Erie Eclipse

We drove from Pittsburgh north to Erie, PA in order to be in the path of totality for the solar eclipse. During the drive there was heavy cloud cover, so we were justifiably worried, but the sky cleared just before the eclipse in the midafternoon. The experience was wild; no other way to describe it.
