Entrevaux, France

The medieval fortified city of Entrevaux, France, with its citadel on the hill at right. The city was last fortified in the late 1600s personally supervised by the Marshal of France. The French feared an invasion of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence via the River Var valley by Italian troops based in Nice and Monaco, though no such invasion occurred.
