22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Emperor Penguin
From a destination specific cruise to Snow Hill Island, Antarctica. Our goal was to approach the island and then helicopter onto the island's extensive "fast ice" fields. After a long hike into virgin snowfields, I came upon an Emperor Penguin colony. This fellow had me at "hello."
