Elephant Stag Beetle in Oak Woodland
The antlered mandibles of stag beetles are a marvel of evolution and have inspired my career as a biologist. My first encounter was of a beetle resting conspicuously among green foliage, awaiting its next flight at dusk to search for a mate.
