22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
doll

This is the home of nomadic people who have settled due to the global Carbon Sequestration project. The name of this village is Tajmir. Because of the region's hot and dry climate, which makes agriculture impossible, the women of the village earn a living by creating traditional dolls. These dolls are inspired by the characters, clothing, and occupations of the villagers. These dolls are called "Dutok."
