Crocodile launching into the water.
This Nile crocodile unexpectedly sprang into action right in front of me. In the sun, its eye is a striking, yellow-green color, the pupil a tiny cat-like slit. Nile crocodiles inhabit freshwater environments across sub-Saharan Africa. While they are the most common crocodilian in Africa, they are regionally extinct in some areas that they historically occupied, such as the Seychelles and the Mediterranean coast of the Delta Nile. Photographed June 2023 in Nyerere National Park, Tanzania.
