21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
Celebration of Faith and Solidarity

The photograph shows thousands of devotees of the Black Nazarene. People believe that by touching and getting close to the statue can heal incurable ailments and bring good fortune. It is considered as the longest and grand processions in the Philippines held every 9th of January in Quiapo, Manila. Every year, the Muslim town community of barangay 384 in Quiapo, Manila where the Golden Mosque is located, supports and wishes a peaceful celebration of the Black Nazarene traslacion.
