"I feel like a piece of glitter in a cloud of dust, I’m not afraid to shine." - Cameron Orlando’s Salad Day Kids Salad Days is an expression of the spirit of its Shakespearean namesake— capturing youthfulness, idealism, and innocence. The subjects aren’t models, but gallery kids. A small group of diverse young adults that contribute to Orlando, Florida’s unique culture. These young adults attend the various art shows in the area carrying with them a self-confidence and an exciting fashion-forward mentality. Fascinated by youth and culture, I explore how our histories of diversity bloom into individualism and modern society. Through portrait photography, my work attempts to celebrate the idea of being comfortable in your own skin. Every portrait session is the result of conversations with those individuals found at art shows and exhibits. Many pieces within Salad Days feature individuals of the LGBTQ community. Sharing their stories, confidence, and enthusiasm, the series aims to highlight and complement each person’s personality; often with unconventional and bold backdrops. Fluid sexuality, pride, race, gender and the constantly evolving culture heritage we carry with us are a focus of the series.
