On the first sunset of the new year, a group of friends drag a basketball hoop into the surf at the Venice Beach Breakwater. In the final moments before dark, a massive one-handed slam dunk echoes across the beach followed by a splash, a moment of silence and then resounding cheers from up and down the boardwalk.
