Bali Petulu sacred white heron

In the village of Petulu, Bali, at dusk, hundreds of "kokuan", sacred white herons roost in the pohon bunutwot trees, (Weeping fig trees). A cleansing ceremony was performed on the 25th of October, 1965, to purify the village of negative forces. On the 7th. of November of the same year, thousands of white herons arrived for the first time, at dusk at the village, and have returned every late afternoon ever since. The white heron is considered holy and blessed by the Balinese, and their now every day presence considered to be an answer to the villagers' prayers for peace and happiness.
