Arcelor Mittal steel mill, Cleveland 2019-09-19
Cleveland used to have dozens of steel mills. Now it has one. This mill originally dates back to before World War I, and in autumn 2020 it passed to yet another owner -- at least its fifth -- just after the prior owner laid off another 450 workers here. Raw materials come in by ship on the Cuyahoga River, to the right, and get transferred to the blast furnace with the help of the gantry crane that runs across the top of the image -- seen here dumping iron ore into railcars for movement around the site.
