17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Apart

It was street photography and taken in Basel, Switzerland. Behind the subject is the bridge named Mittlere Brücke that separates Grossbasel (upper-class) and Kleinbasel (middle and lower classes). The sculpture named "Helvetia on the road" has been sitting on the bridge since 1981. According to its creator, Bettina Eichin, Helvetia (Switzerland) after a long trip in the city, puts her coat against the parapet for some rest and looks thoughtfully down the Rhine. And there stops the cyclist for rest as well. A bridge means reunion, rest and separation as well.
