Barcelona, Spain, September 1, 2019. Amadou Soumaila, from Mali, was rescued from a drifting boat with 118 people on board on August 1, 2016, in the central Mediterranean, 20 nautical miles from Libya. He currently lives in Barcelona, where he has applied for asylum and is still awaiting a response to his asylum application. Meanwhile, he lives and works in the city.
