After the Storm #1, Santa Cruz, 2022

Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Kinda of near the start of the multiple atmospheric rivers to hit California we were in Santa Cruz picking our kid off at college. Staying in a motel a couple blocks from Cowell Beach and the Santa Cruz wharf it rained heavy all night but in the morning calmed. Walking the beach in the morning with the clouds heavy and blue it didnt look like much was going to change so we started back for the motel. Across from the boardwalk my wife stopped at a breakfast place to get a sandwich. As if on cue testing to see how quickly I could react, as we walked out of the shop the clouds began to finally break up and the sun was starting to peek through. Something in the color change from dark shadowing blue to glimmers of yellow and gold had me thinking something good might be happening. I ran across the street onto the sand and headed for the wharf. For a morning that started out dark and stormy with a dark blue morning sky lit it gave way to gold like I've never seen before.
